Seriously beginning to think I would never get to see West Ham compete in a European competition for the time I have left. Let alone the business end.!
Part of me wants this experience to drag. The other part wants it over asap. Wherever the chips fall, it’s never dull. Always special. Other fans may mock and get sniffy at us. But honestly. “ I Just Don’t Think They Understand.!”

Has he really? Absolute comedy. Not surprising though. That’s the way. Things are looked down on until…
The Europa league was tin pot until Man U were in it and won it in 2016. It was portrayed as important then. It was important when chelsea won it and it’ll be important when Liverpool likely win it next season.
The conference league will be important- so we will be told- when a ‘big’ club is in it and wins it. It’s very likely an Arsenal or a spurs will be in a year or so time. They won’t be looking down their noses then.

I see us as slight favourites, and call me naive but think we will go for this. This is a game changer for Moyes and not even he will want to be left with what if's.

Like all new competitions, the ECL initially struggled for credibility. But, like perhaps the League Cup before it, once a few more glamorous teams (Roma and us) start taking it seriously, it suddenly becomes not laughable at all and something well worth winning. For a start it gets you into the Europa League at the group stages, it gives the opportunity to give game time to a big squad and if you are a club with a decent-sized fan-base (again, us) will be financially viable. BT loved having us in it this year.
Villa will certainly take it seriously, and Tottenham's, 'we don't care if we qualify for it' line was just feeble deflection because they knew they'd probably miss out.

How many new competitions are there? Only the Nations League I can think of.
UEFA themselves have not helped with their promotion of the competition by pretty much advertising it as the third rate tournament, and hosting the final in a 20k stadium.
However, the Uefa Cup was the third rate tournament when Spurs won it (twice) and that doesn’t stop Spurs fans gloating about having won more European trophies than Arsenal.

Was reading about it on the BBC website a couple of weeks ago and saw an 8th team mentioned for next year if we win.

I still remember us in the 99 intertoto cup . It was dubbed the intertwobob. Then . Yet when spurs were in it the following year the very same journalists were bigging up its importance . They've always been media darlings in the 80s it was even worse .
